BLACK AND WHITE WARBLER
This male warbler was probably painted in 1824 in the East; the unfinished portion of the branch was completed in Havell’s engraving. A faint pencil drawing of the warbler’s foot, at lower left, was also included by Havell. Audubon wrote that he found this tree-the black, or American, larch (Larix larcinia)-growing in northern swamps. Havell XC”
